I live on LI. The winter was much better than the previous two where we got dumped on big time. With global warming there is more moisture in the air so single event precip events are dumping larger precip amounts.

we have seen many attempts to explain it. From Ozone, to sun to volcanoes to CO2 causing it... there are many guesses from all sides.
here is a really interesting article... explaining that the recent lunar eclipse shows us what is happening. It seems to say that the last decade saw a very clear atmosphere causing strat cooling but letting more sun and more warming in... causing some global warming.

Atmospheric scientist Richard Keen of the University of Colorado explains: “Lunar eclipses tell us a lot about the transparency of Earth’s atmosphere. When the stratosphere is clogged with volcanic ash and other aerosols, lunar eclipses tend to be dark red. On the other hand, when the stratosphere is relatively clear, lunar eclipses are bright orange.”
This is important because the stratosphere affects climate; a clear stratosphere ‘lets the sunshine in’ to warm the Earth below. At a 2008 SORCE conference Keen reported that “The lunar eclipse record indicates a clear stratosphere over the past decade, and that this has contributed about 0.2 degrees to recent warming.”
The eclipse of Sept. 27, 2015, however, was not as bright as recent eclipses. Trained observers in 7 countries estimated that the eclipse was about 0.4 magnitude dimmer than expected, a brightness reduction of about 33 percent.

jem you seem to having trouble with this, let me help.
Surface temps are increasing while high altitude temps are decreasing while CO2 levels are going up due to all the burning of fossil fuels.
Here maybe you and peizoe will understand a picture...
now, why do you think the strat temps are going down.

Aerosol particless (like those created by erupting volcanoes) in the stratosphere heat up as they take in the suns rays warming the stratosphere. Then about 2 to 3 years after and eruptions they start dissipating. As the aerosols dissipated the stratosphere cools and incidently more sun hit the earth...
This is a comlex subject... fc... its probably way over your head... unless you read a bunch of articles...

The effect of aerosols on clouds is highly speculative. The theory is that the more aerosol, the smaller the cloud droplets tend to be, and clouds with more but smaller drops have a higher albedo. This would increase the planetary albedo, i.e. have a cooling effect. Twomey (5) proposed the first step in this theory, by showing empirically that the mean droplet mass in a cloud decreases in proportion with the number concentration of aerosols (N). In other words, the mean droplet radius (r) is proportional to:
r ~ N-0.33 or Dr/r = -(DN/N)/3
So if the aerosol concentration increases by 30% (DN/N = 0.3), the droplet radius decreases by 10%, and for the same total cloud water content, the number of droplets will increase by 30%.

No jem. It's the increasing greenhouse effect. You know, from CO2. Why do you enjoy being so dense? Are you just a pathological liar?
you are lower than troll, perhaps a trog/troll. I present as a possible theory something AGW nutters have used to explain the pause. (many say it was due to aerosols.) and you don't even recognize your team's speculations.
