Constitutional Question....?

There is a lot of time between November election and innauguration day, plenty of time to review and fix whatever happened.

I don't think that's a reasonable assumption. It all depends on what happened. 9 weeks is not a long time. We're gonna get it all fixed and reschedule a national election the day after Xmas? I don't think so. Good luck getting 450 congress-people and 100 senators to agree on that.

This crossed my mind.

Lets say worst case scenario ok...
The day before the 2020 election Russia, or NK, or China, or Iran, blah blah blah.... totally destroys several key States' voter registration data bases. Like Ohio or FL, or TX, etc...
People show up on election day and its a complete clusterfuck with lines that are miles long and civil servants who are 10,000% clueless as to what to do.
And say (which is not a reach), this will take months and months to fix by the best of the best that the private sector has to offer....

Does Trump still get to be President after January 20th?
I'm not a scholar on this stuff so I have to ask...
...did the founding fathers plan for some bs like this?

I would think President Donald Trump will continue to assume the duties of the US President in a holdover capacity. Other countries have had the same situation where the current President continued to assume his duties as before. As I recall it, military rulers of Thailand continued in office till the elections restored power to civilians.
Let me take note that election machines are not connected to the internet so, that scenario is probably, not likely. What is more likely is election machines changing your votes. There is another article I believe today that mentions that. Paper records need to be maintained because that could be the easiest way to rig elections by creating software to override the computer program running the voting software. That is scary because the potential for fraud is real and at a huge level at that!

Well, even though they aren't connected to the net (taking your word for that)... they are somehow connected to each other... at least state or county-wide. I don't know. That's part of the problem too imo. I think a few billion spent on establishing a hardened nationwide voting LAN with paper back-up will make our country more secure than those billions spent on 50 miles of a 30 foot wall.

They lack the constitutional authority to do that anyway. There is no decision for them to make. The constitution specifies when the election will occur, when the electoral college will meet, and when the inauguration will occur. There is no provision for moving any of those dates just because Wyoming's database- election system was hacked and is unintellible. They go to their plan B. No Plan B? Well, no playa the game then. As we used to say in the corporate world and elsewhere "lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

While we are on the topic of messing with the election system, this article/video is awesome.

You vote, but then it corrects your vote and puts the right response there. Wow. That is efficient as hell. I am seeing Chicago ordering these by the truckload.

This has happened in past elections and voters have caught the machines changing votes. Now, a number of these machines are reportedly, manufactured by a company owned by George Soros. Probably, use paper ballots and have a scanner that counts the votes. Low tech by today's high tech savy times but, probably, more reliable to make sure each vote is counted properly!

There are multiple reports of votes cast being changed to the opposing candidate. That is a case of voter fraud. Paper ballots and a scanner probably, is all that is needed to count the votes efficiently, and accurately.

It's up to the states to decide how to run their own elections and send electors to the electoral college. The meeting of the electors to cast their votes occurs as it normally would and a new president is elected and inauguration happens on Jan 20.
I'm surprised that this thread has continued on after I had already given the answer. ---in addition by the way, if no candidate receives a majority of the Electoral College, then the election goes to The House where each state gets one vote to be cast for one of the top 3 Electoral College vote-getters . If the House fails to elect a new president by inauguration day, then the vice president-elect, who can also be chosen by The House, takes office as acting president ON INAUGURATION DAY JANUARY 20.---There is no scenario where the previous president just hangs on. I recommend thread closure at this juncture.

Yeah H4 posted that up above. https://elitetrader.com/et/threads/constitutional-question.335488/page-4#post-4917791
I bet a ton of people never even noticed it happening.
Its crazy. I mean think about it, in this instance you actually saw it change on screen. Think how easy it would be to do it without a visual confirmation of the switch. No one would even know.
I like Small's idea. A simple scanner using a sheet of paper and a #2 pencil. People could even just fill them out at home and bring them in with their voter ID. Cheaper, faster (less lines), more reliable.
Of course that means we'll never see it.
