Colorado’s Senate has passed a bill that would cast its electoral college votes to the presidential winner of the popular vote.

The bill, introduced by state Sen. Mike Foote, would have Colorado join 11 other states and Washington D.C. in what’s called the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, which would mandate Colorado Electors to give up their vote to the winner of the national popular vote rather than the winner of their state.

“This really is a victory for those who believe that every vote should be counted equally,” Foote (D-Lafayette) said.

Colorado has been a swing state. The Lefty/Commie/DemoCraps made a big push some years back to turn Colorado blue... to be California's "Mini-Me".

The Electoral College was specifically enacted to prevent this!

As usual, I'm not sure the Democrats have actually thought this through. If Colorado is just going to vote whatever the national vote does, then why campaign at all in Colorado? All that money spent campaigning in the state...just bypass it and campaign elsewhere.

I'm not sure that's legal? I understand each state has some control over its voting system, and presently Colorado swings Left. However if Colorado Citizens voted for Candidate "A", how could the state give its EC vote to Candidate "B".

The United States of America was designed and formed as a "Constitutional Republic" not an open democracy for specific reasons.

I'm not sure that's legal? I understand each state has some control over its voting system, and presently Colorado swings Left. However if Colorado Citizens voted for Candidate "A", how could the state give its EC vote to Candidate "B".

Nationwide, the electoral system is a mixed bag. The legislature gets to control how their electoral college voters are bound or if they are bound at all. In some states they are absolutely bound by what the voters decided, in many, they are not bound at all. In theory they could vote for anyone they want when they vote. And in Maine for example, they are bound but by the vote in their congressional district rather than the vote statewide. It's a very mixed system. Dont read that the way a lib does, which would be "we need to make this all uniform." The reason there are differences is- and this might be radical for the libs- because they are all separate states that do their own thinking. Versus, just tell me what CA is doing and we will do that.

Lots of dicey constitutional issues with what Colorado is trying to do here. They were organized as a state and allowed into the union, now they are outsourcing a constitutional responsibility that is supposed to be met through one man/one vote withing their state. Yes there is the argument that, yeh well, it is still the state deciding to do that but there are limits and state citizens have legitimate arguments about whether the power of their vote is being replaced by someone else's vote. Not going to resolve it here, but it is- as I said- dicey.

These dems are all just short-term thinking political hacks anyway. All their thinking is designed to try to get a lefty elected. If Trump gets the majority of the popular vote then they will be the first to argue that a state has the right vote however it wants in the electoral college and that they will commit hari kari before giving their precious electoral college votes to Trump.

The electoral college system is stupid in the modern era, but it’s what we got.

Please understand the idea behind the electoral college originally was that the common man was not smart enough to make the decision who should lead the country and here we are with Donald Trump.

Electors are intended to be free agents and are not allowed to hold any federal office. Each state’s legislature determines how electors are chosen but the idea that the legislature can force an elector to cast a “faithless” vote is certainly pushing it.

Of note, the only thing truly preventing an electoral college elector from casting a faithless vote is that both of their votes for president and Vice President not be from their state.

Our state is already 36% Hispanic... + Denver is a sanctuary city. (Like I said, "California Mini-Me")

At the present time, this new law is rather a moot point. Since the "big manipulation" by the Dems to convert Colorado from red to blue, the state has voted heavily DemoCrap, much to my dismay. (Saw a documentary on The History Channel(?) on how the Dems lied, cheated, bribed, manipulated, et al... to get our state turned. Disgusting to a patriot that they could get away with all that.

Also when do they cast their electoral votes then? DO they wait until midnight when all the polls close nationwide so they can tune in to CNN and Fox and see who has more popular votes and the election is probably already decided anyway just to symbolically throw their electoral votes at a winner or loser for nothing?
