Students at the University of California at Berkley pay nearly $33,000 per year for tuition, fees, books, room, and board. Add on student insurance and the price increases to approximately $35,200. If you are an out-of-state student, add an additional $22,878 to pay a whopping price tag of $55,878 without health insurance. These costs, again, are per year.
So, at the end of 4 years at Berkeley, if a student is lucky enough to graduate in 4 years, students will have paid anywhere from $132,000 to $223,512.
As students graduate from Berkeley this year, they have been told they must pay an additional $10 per graduation ticket, with a maximum of 20 tickets allowed per graduate. If they choose not to pay, then they will not walk in the graduation ceremony and, will instead, have their diplomas mailed to them.
As a reward for the additional $10, after having spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on their UC Berkeley educations, graduates will have the honor of hearing House Minority Leader Democrat Nancy Pelosi speak. However, they will not have the honor of hearing their name called in recognition of their hard work.
