Quote from Maverick74:
Piezoe, you don't really believe this shit do you? First of all, let's make some corrections to this article before we get started. The author of that article is primarily talking about libertarians, not republicans. And most libertarians do NOT consider themselves conservative. Which pretty much invalidates the entire article. The conservative implies a cultural system of beliefs which most libertarians do not adhere to or at least want the government to adhere to.
My next point is, yes, libertarians have a lot of conspiracy people under their tent. Part of that is the fact that most libertarians do not consider themselves to be a member of a group and follow the logic of group think so they are naturally suspicious of all power, all collective groups, and both the right and the left.
The irony of course is that the "conservative mind" as the author calls it, is probably the complete opposite of what he describes. Most "conservatives" are apathetic, not interested, unmotivated, etc. It's precisely the reason why the Alex Jones of the world and the Ron Pauls and even the tea party rose to prominence. They broke away from the uncaring, apathetic, typical conservative.
Next point, just regarding who has more conspiracy theorists in terms of center right vs center left, I would say the left has faaaaaar more. I think it started during the Vietnam war. The whole counter culture movement and the distrust of government started on the left, not the right. Then you have the assassination of JFK and RFK, Martin Luther King and the resignation of Richard Nixon. All these events became the genesis of the left wing conspiratorial mind. Fast forward to the present time. You have liberals that believe George H Bush was involved in bringing cocaine into this country and into the black communities to kill off blacks. You have lefties who believe AIDS was created by republicans in government to kill of blacks and gays. You have the left who features prominently in the 9/11 truther movement. They actually believe Bush jr blew up the WTC and orchestrated the entire event. Then move forward to the occupy wall street movement. Pretty much conspiracy central. Oh and btw, when Bush was in power (jr) they firmly believed he would start another war before elections in 2008 and declare a state of emergency and cancel the upcoming elections. I could go on and on and on.
Now, are there conspiracies on the right? Sure, there are. But honestly, I dismiss a lot of them as simply a hatred for all things Obama. Center right people are passive by nature and generally follow the status quo. That's why lefties are out in full force protesting everything under the sun from genetically modified foods to war for oil. It's never ending. It's in their nature to have extreme beliefs. Funny how this article was written now and not when Bush was in power because he would have been hard pressed to find anyone on the right believing in conspiracies and the left would have overwhelmed him with case studies.
So to sum up, this article was so far off the mark, I don't know how it got passed the editor. Please feel free to debate me on anything I posted above, you know all that shit is true. Which makes me wonder how you could be so obtuse to post it.
