Consequences of reaching barriers in technological advancement

Quote from intradaybill:

Are you declaring then that there are no more patents to file?

no I'm declaring that patents being filed are bullshit, insignificant or at best not significant enough to save the developed countries' failing asses

and that there is no guarantee that a technological breakthrough will take place, one which can change the failing course these so called developed countries are falling through

Quote from bwolinsky:

I do recall that Adam Smith correctly surmised that it is not the baker's interest that he has in seeing you fed, but it is his own self-interst that leads him to sell you the loaf.

Just the same: when industrial and technological titans see a process that adds value, they will pursue it to it's maximum utilization, earning temporary economic profits above the cost of capital. Eventually there is no economic profit and the quest for new technologies starts all over.

It is only the uninformed and uncreative that would ever conclude technology ceases to advance. New technologies are a certainty, and so are new innovations and solutions that will likely be attained by necessity and through the invisible hands of our knowledgeable corporate citizens. You know? The ones with collective market values over $50 trillion? But what do they know? They are obviously incapable of adapting to change, and that must be why they only grow at 10+% for the past 30 years.

Technological advances will never cease, and it is technology that will likely and always be the trigger for more growth.

past is no proof of what will come in the future, even if it were; for the last 20 years what significant technological advancement has the world seen that can prove to us that we will continue to see technological advancements that will save the day?

I think if you try to become more familiar with technology you will understand that many breakthroughs are along the way and the fact that America has exclusive in some key areas, such as bioengineering and medical technology. The next breakthroughs will be in the energy area but only after the oil companies have taken maximum advantage of remaining oil reserves and invest their proceeds in the new projects.

A good way to evaluate a coutry is by its culture and manners

nuff said America ?

(oh yeah go on - call up Batman !! ) lol

you reap what you sow on this planet

and the crappy US "culture" that has spread like a virus around the world has its limitations - especially greed

Not that there aren't some things I personally like about some of the stuff eg computers, some music and er ?

plenty. But the blind cannot see, nor apparently, use something like google to search for them.

search engines existed more than 20 years ago, enhancing available technologies to better fit needs is not breakthrough innovation

blind? haha, you know who's blind; americans are blind, they can't see all the obvious indications pointing to the inevitable total fuckup of this country

Quote from intradaybill:

... that many breakthroughs are along the way

empty promises

Quote from intradaybill:

that America has exclusive in some key areas, such as bioengineering and medical technology.

bullshit ... americans are so fucking slow, so fucking slow ... it takes them decades to go from research to practice, that is if the research was valid in the first place and was not some random bullshit put together just to receive funding

Quote from intradaybill:

and more empty promises

keep dreaming

Sure there will be techno breakthroughs but

the sad fact remains companies like Ford etc will have to produce mundane products ever cheaper/better quality to sell onto an international market.

The West must adapt and compete or its game over on an ever slippery down slope imho

Information technology and other advances in computers will continue to be the advancements that lead us to higher productivity levels.

Quantum computers in our lifetime most definitely will.

advancements (note; no serious breakthroughs) in IT within the last two decades helped speed the transfer of knowledge and information from one nation to another, you can rest assured that it not only did not give developed countries a competitive edge but was of more benefit to developing countries than to developed countries

for instance, I have seen developing countries that have a far superior online banking system than that of any US bank, we are in the 21st century and yet money transfers take 3 days to clear in america, in most other countries there is no delay, this is only one example ... it is because of paranoia and stupidity that governments come up with policies that paralyze their systems

there is no evidence to support that statement, that is merely a wish, a dream, a hope, the type Obama gives you, unlike what Disney has taught you; all dreams don't come to life, most of the time humans take their dreams with them to their graves
