The chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee blasted White House press secretary Jay Carney on Sunday, calling him a âpaid liarâ who is not being truthful about the scandal at the Internal Revenue Service.
âTheir paid liar, their spokesperson, the picture behind, heâs still making up things about what happened and calling this a local rogue,â Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), said on CNNâs âState of the Union,â gesturing to a graphic of Carney on the set.
Issaâs committee provided CNN a transcript of an IRS employee interviewed under oath who said that it seemed as if the idea to single out conservative groups for additional scrutiny came from Washington. The Obama administration has maintained that local IRS agents in a single agency division have been responsible for the scandal.
âThis is a problem that was in all likelihood right out of Washington headquarters,â Issa said. âWeâre getting to proving it.â
Issa said the White House is not being truthful or forthcoming about the scandal.
âThe presidentâs spokesman â spokesperson â is saying whateverâs convenient at the time. The story changes,â Issa said.
But he vowed his committee would get to the bottom of the scandal.
âWhat we have is people who have to come in and transcribe interviews. Theyâre saying under penalty of crimes that certain things are true. We have subpoenaed documents that would support that that they say emails went back and forth,â Issa said. âWe will learn the whole truth.â
