Confessions of a successful trader

Quote from monty09:

I do not trade my own account but trade for a firm.

I do make money and get a bonus of pnl. I may not have the balls to go on my own but honestly I dont have the market knowledge to even try. Going on 4 years and have made my firm as well as myself money.

I think the one thing I learned is trading for me is not the sexy job people think. There is a lot of hard work and learning involved.

agreed,

its not as flashy as the movies or pundits portray the job to be...

and yes, what it takes to be an independent trader versus a paid trader for a house are a completely different pair

they aren't the same....

hey stltrader, nice thread and congrats on your trading success.

since you're doing confessions, i'll add one of my own - its been a while since i made or lost the $40k in a day that seems your daily swing, but not as long as 99% of the other posters here. im happier with less swing and more consistency right now, but maybe one day i'll regain my comfort level. if i don't that's ok too.

Thx prof Charles:

I'm really not very happy w/the 40k swings in the context of how much I'm making. I think I should either be making the same amt w/20k swings or be making 2x as much w/my current 40k swings, so that gives me a goal to works towards. No doubt I need to increase my consistency and lower my losses.
