Confessions of a successful trader

I had been a sell-side analyst for 7 years and was beginning to hate it. I had a friend had taught himself how to trade and offered to teach me. He was not/is not a guru. He taught me for free. Back then I figured if I could make enough cash to pay my bills, I'd rather trade than do anyting else in the world. Confession #6 is i've been profitable since the beginning and have not generally faced "struggles". Sure i've had drawdowns i couldn't be sure were going to end, I struggle with breaking the rules I make for myself and some days I feel like I'd like to crawl under a rock but I've never had to "struggle". I think the fear of struggling has been a really good motivator for me

I just want to know how you got started in trading and how much were you expected to make back then?

Any obstacles you had to go through or was everything a smooth sailing?

Thanks!

Somehow, I've managed to stay in the game full time for 30 years. I haven't figured that one out yet with all of the ups and downs. I concentrate on the grains, and leave everything else alone. So far it has worked for me, but then again......you're only as good as your last trade.

30 years is awesome! Congrats!

Confession #1

I've purchased several trading courses and books.

It's been 5 years for me now and I'm just breaking even but still struggle with the psychological aspects of following my rules.

St. Louis thanks for sharing and I hope you know how blessed you are to have someone like your friend and a method that worked right out of the box.

confession: I had a 77% drawdown in March. I was able to stand back up, dust myself off and get back on the horse. I have since reviewed my transgressions and have grown my account by 136% (from rock-bottom with proper discipline)...I have a ways to go. This site (believe it or not) provided me with the entertainment and encouragement I needed during my 'darkest hour'

One of life's golden rules

Never admit to anything unless it's in your favour -

"confess my son ?

in the famous words of John Mc " you cannot be serious !!"

Trading individual stocks has been my full time profession for almost 7 years. I've made more money than I ever could have hoped for or expected. Confession #1 is I read the elitetrader site and sometimes even post. I think this is mainly due to bordeom. I'll follow with more confessions whenever I run out of anything else to do. Confession#2 is I believe very few people on this site actually make money. Confession#3 is I believe none of the gurus on this site or pretty much anywhere else can make money themselves or help anyone else do so over any extended period of time. I'd love to hear confessions from the other dozen or so successful traders on the site if u choose to share.

Confession#4 - I highly suspect you are NOT either of the bolded items in your OP above...

Unless you plan to post convincing proof of your self-anointed success.

We gets lots of these claims, and they are VERY rarely true.

so far, all I've seen is 'I'm above the rest of you'

and it doesn't even have to be convincing proof - it just needs be be anything at all
