Concealed Carrying Bystander Nearly Killed Innocent Man During Tucson Shooting

Quote from OPTIONAL777:

If the local level spots a problem, report it to the federal level. They then respond properly...which might be to suggest the local level deal with it.

The bottom line is that we live in a United States, where our greatest progress has taken place under the guidance of a strong federal government.

A balance between the local and federal level is best, good communication between federal and local, sharing of resources in intelligence, etc.

Also, not to be too technical, but my guess is the guns used in murders like Arizona were likely not manufactured there, the bullets were likely not created there...which makes it an interstate commerce issues, i.e. federal.

A reasonable response. Let’s add in the availability of info regarding the mental stability of an applicant being accessible to the screening officials, as was not the case in the Virginia Tech incident (unless I'm mistaken on that one).

Quote from OPTIONAL777:

One person, acting alone killing dozens or more in a few minutes...

The gun is not an equalizer, just ask the Native Americans.

Say China develops a better gun that enables them to conquer the USA in a matter of minutes.

That is a good thing?

No, a gun in not an equalizer.

...again, if Switzerland or Canada are your utopian vision, by all means go there.

I want a more balanced and reasonable America, one where guns are properly controlled.

I believe you will find, that when fully equipped with modern firearms (which didn't happen on any significant scale until it was too late), the native american was a formidable, and dare I say, FREE, enemy:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Little_Bighorn

In terms of someone building a better mousetrap for rapid conquering, I will direct you to the Manhattan project:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhattan_Project

Which was used exactly because the cost of taking Japan in any other manner would be unacceptable.

So you see your premise about China developing an out of the box weapon that allows them to defeat us in conventional warfare could be a problem, although I hope it comes with a good anti-nuclear ICBM/B-2 Bomber/Boomer Sub/Suitcase nuke warranty policy...

Keep trolling, this is somewhat entertaining on this sad Friday night...

Quote from OPTIONAL777:

What is the frequency these days of mass murder...compared to the days of 200 years ago?

Clearly, the technology is allowing individuals to commit mass murder with greater ease and frequency.
YES you are correct......ONE MAN has all the CONTROL!!!

.......and THAT man is BARRY S!!!

WERE IS THE RAGE!!!

Sure. If there is evidence of a mental problem, that should be part of the equation on whom to be selling guns and ammo to.

Quote from OPTIONAL777:

Yes, actually in a United States, I have a problem with it being a "local" issue.

Federal issue is best.

I agree.

If you believe its a constitutional right, that constitutional right is the same in Detroit as it is in the middle of nowhere Kansas. Also alleviates the myriad of different laws in different states and cities.

Probably about the same, maybe even less.

Clearly, the technology is allowing individuals to commit mass murder with greater ease and frequency.

Clearly you're full of shit.

If you don't like the Second Amendment, why don't YOU move somewhere else?
Quote from OPTIONAL777:

This thread is about guns mostly, right?

You spoke in glowing terms of Switzerland's gun policy, right?

So move there, why not?

Which is why this is not about guns because where there's a will there's a way. Planes can be weaponized. So can fertilizer. Think about the damage a nutcase could do with a car, bus or truck before he could be stopped. Or with gasoline and a lighter... this isn't about inanimate objects, it's about people.

"Five people were killed in Holland when a speeding car ploughed into spectators at a parade in what appeared to be an attempted attack on the Dutch queen."

So where is the outrage from the left over this mass murder using an automobile? Obviously this technology is making mass murder much easier and should be banned.

Those evil cars. I think we need sue all auto manufactures for making their cars so easy to kill with.

That poor driver was obviously motivated by Fox News because they've aired car commercials.
