LOL. That's a "computer myth." You could save about $100 building it yourself. Then again, you could spend much more, if you care to. :D

I went to Dells website and custom created a XPS system and it came out to $3300. I am building the same system with better parts and it will cost about $1500.

I was thinking about Dell's regular deal on a Dimension 9200, including 20" monitor and shipping... for $679.

Tell me about the one you're going to build for $340... I'm all ears.

I disagree. Cable blows away DSL. For about $40 a month, you can get 30mps/5mps. On CVC, I go down about once a year for 5 mins. The speed is as fast as FIOS. DSL is the worst choice. And that goes for reliability as well.

can you post a link confirming 30/5 for $40 bucks?
cable is shared connection, fios-dedicated. very big difference.
fios offer same speed for $179-

buy all parts online at newegg.com and put it together yourself.

yep.
it's a lot of fun actually and i enjoy doing research, put all parts together. kinda like car restoration or some home DYI project, but on much smaller scale, if you trying to build something cheap :)

The research is alot of fun. You learn alot and you can build a much better system by yourself than you ever can paying someone else to do it.
