H huangks Feb 18, 2003 #4 I got the same problem a year ago. My problem was solved after I found that part of the Motherboard was touching the case (shortcut? - I believe thats the english word for this thing).

j_medved Feb 18, 2003 #5 it can also be some hardware conflict. My new PC was doing that (Win XP). Took out the DVD Writer. Not a single lockup, crash or reboot since then. Did you check the system event log to see if any errors are reported?

Magna Administrator Feb 18, 2003 #6 It's usually a hardware issue (since bad vid drivers tend to lock-up, not randomly reboot). Either a faulty memory chip, a hairline crack in the motherboard, or some intermittent short.
