Nope! You didn't throw away your girlfriend, your mother and your best friend who voted for Obama. You love them for whom they are as a wonderful person not because of who they voted for President. That's the big difference between you and Tsing Tao.
Thanksgiving is coming .. let's us ( all of us ) just give Thanks to all the blessings in our lives. Like John Lennon famous sayings ~ it matters Not who you love, where you love, why you love, when you love or how you love, it matters only that you love lol
make love, not war

You're right, there is a paradox in my position. The girlfriend offered to vote for Romney if it was important to me so that defused my anger completely and I told her I wanted her to vote however her heart indicated to her that she should.
My best friend has been such a good person over the years and he has never rubbed my nose in the fact that I support the losing team. He is very careful to not bring up politics and if we discuss politics at all it is because I've brought up the subject.
The people I'm discarding are extended family members that I don't see frequently and who like to bring up politics at the dinner table. They enjoy gloating over winning and are comfortable asserting that their political outlook is smart and anyone who does not hold the same view is stupid. The become almost rabid with spittle flying out of their mouth and their eyes nearly popping out of the sockets when George Bush is mentioned. The truth is that they probably don't want to be around me during the holidays as much as I don't want to be around them. Its not a tragedy, it is just an inevitable thing really.
Anyway, you pointed that out politely so I thought I would respond in kind.
