Many on this forum seem to have what Americans refer to as a "frat mentality" .

It just means that if you don't agree with the fraternity's views and philosophies, and do not think and act as they tell you, then you will likely be scorned and exiled from their acceptance, no matter what good things you may have to bring to the group.

i know what you mean about them as i can see clearly their hostile manners toward me! i don't know eactly what happened that day when i read Tsing Tao's posting ... i was filled with great sadness !... how he pushed his mom away because she's exercisng her freedom to vote for a President and how he asked us to leap into abyss and he doesn't care except for his wife and his son .. immediately my mind was like what ??? Perhaps he never know there're so many sons who loved to visit their mothers during christmas but they can't anymore because they are dead ! Perhaps he doesn't know sooooo many other people's sons died for us and our families protecting us !... the world doesn't consist of him and his son and wife 3 people only! all love their sons very much not only him !... so in a moment of sadness ... i posted something out from my heart and you know what happened next .............anyway i am glad we are talking now and thank you for your understand! A couple of times in this forum I've shared a few stories about my mom who has a tremendously high IQ. She can't remember names, can't cook anything that isn't microwaveable and often cannot find her car in the parking lot at the mall. She wasn't allowed to administer any medicine to me as child after accidentally poisoning me and seems to have trouble with the higher math found in a checkbook.

I'm not quite as dysfunctional as her but then I don't have her high IQ either. I'm very familiar with the consequences of stupidity though.

When I mentioned "conservative friends" I meant here in P&R.

My friends in RealLife™ are all liberals.

I'm not sure why except that I grew up in the city (Hollywood High School, University of Southern California) and a lot of downtown LA people tend to be liberals. My best friend is a liberal Jew from Oakland who lives in Seattle. My fiancee is liberal. My Dad is probably the only conservative that I have ever known personally long term. Its just a fact of life on the west coast. I haven't used political affiliation as a litmus test for social purposes because that isn't feasible in LA in my opinion.

My attraction to P&R is largely the fascination of encountering fellow conservatives like Lucrum (with whom I share an interest in aviation), Pspr (a fellow electrical engineer) and PhoenixTrader and the others. Its very interesting reading their posts because their views are so rare out here in SoCal. I was a trader and worked at Citadel (risk decomposition and performance attribution) so I started posting/reading upstairs but slowly became a P&R bottom-feeder over time.

Yeah, I don't want to piss those guys off by boasting that I'm going to get free stuff from the government but I think they'll understand because they know I'm an arch-conservative and that I've lived mostly a contributory life and added to the GDP. They likely will realize that even if I become a "taker" now I'll always be a net "producer" and that I don't seek to live off of their hard work. That is my hope anyways.
