No way for Comey to know whether Trump was wiretapped or not. Comey can only speak with authority of what goes on within the FBI. Not the NSA. NSA can also wiretap, and in fact, is the source of most wiretaps.
So for Comey to say the wiretap "never took place" and demand the DOJ smack Trump down....there's no way he could know that since he's only in charge of one agency, when many other agencies wiretap.
Therefore, he fucked up. Comey did a few things here. First, he called his boss a liar without the evidence to back it up. And two, he destroyed his own credibility as chief lawman at the FBI, since all police work is based on fact, while his rebuffing on Trump was based on pure conjecture. Not only that, but likely partisan.
The man is done. This is why I love Trump. He hangs people by their own words. Lets them takes shots until they cross an obvious line, then hangs them by their own words. Genius really. That's what a good troll does.
