colorado shooter described as "normal christian boy"

Quote from Yannis:

What's noteworthy is that the same people who wouldn't ever claim they understand a physics paper on the Unified Field Theory or a discussion on Fermat's last theorem, who would always run for help about any medical or legal document of some importance to them, think they can open the Bible and pontificate from there, proclaiming that they understand the passage's history, context, intent, words, hidden meaning, etc etc.

Robert G. Ingersoll: The inspiration of the bible depends on the ignorance of the person who reads it

Daffy Duck: "Maybe if I thtare at this piethe of paper long enough, people will think I can read" :)

Good point. Don't do that. Ever! :D
but you are told its easier to believe if you suspend reason:

"Reason is the greatest enemy that faith has; it never comes to the aid of
spiritual things, but -- more frequently than not -- struggles against the
divine Word, treating with contempt all that emanates from God."
father of modern Protestant christianity, Martin Luther

I'm not really familiar with Martin Luther's writings, but I don't really believe that you and he would agree on the definition and usage of the word "reason" in that sentence. Think "blind logic compulsively and exclusively used in all circumstances" and you'd be closer to what he meant.

Btw, another definition of insanity, certainly of bad writing, is to grab disconnected tidbits from here and there anf try to convince others that they, strung together arbitrarily, make sense. Like that atheist who summarized the Gospel as follows: "and he went and hanged himself... go and do the same..." :D
