College Laptop

Quote from cashonly:

It depends on how long you plan to keep it. I have a 10 year-old DELL that I'm still able to download new drivers for from the Dell website as they come out. It has also been easy to find upgrade parts.. easier than it would be with an unknown manufacturer. That has been a major consideration for me in subsequent purposes, leading me to stay with Dell, if not at least a major manufacturer.

Cash

That is basically why I am willing to spend as much as I am, because I plan to keep it throughout my college years. On the topic of major manufacturers, that is true. If I need to upgrade or download drivers, etc, it would be a lot easier with a major manufacturer.

Maybe paying the extra money for Dell isn't a bad idea.

Basically... I'm about to go into college for business. I have $3000 to spend, little more, little less. I am into gaming and I need a laptop that can basically be a desktop replacement.

Main Specs I need are :

2 - 2.16 Ghz Processor
2 - Gb Ram
100 Gb Hard drive at 7200 rpm

Other suggestions that would be beneficial to a great computer would be appreciated.

Thanks

My how things have changed. When I went to college, I "needed" a slide rule... about $12.00

Did daddy not hug you when you were younger?

if i had gone to my daddy and said i wanted to spend 3000 for a laptop so i could go to college it wouldnt have been a hug that i would have recieved. he would have told me how stupid i was. just like i am doing for you right now.

Haha gotta keep up with the times man

That WAS up with the times. Aluminum with etched scales... WOW!

One chemistry professor was in the war and said all they had was slide rule scales printed on paper which they had to cut out and glue onto wooden slides... about $0.25.

Cool dude. Well I still want a laptop so do you have any suggestions of what I can get for my money?

i already told you. get a refurb dell 9400 for $1000. it is a great desktop replacement computer and there is no software program out there it cant run.
then do your first business class assignment. calculate the future value of $2000 invested at 5% for 30+ years.

Any trader worth his salt is averaging at least 20% per year.

$2000 @ 20% for 30 years = $474,752
