As a business decision Nike has shown its sponsored athletes that they will back them almost regardless. This has nothing to do with politics. It’s the same reason they didn’t drop tiger woods. They want their sponsored athletes to know they got their back.
In the end pulling shoes that have an American flag isn’t any less patriotic than selling a show for profit showing that flag.
Who buys sneakers for 100 bucks or more in the first place? Just those lacking self esteem and self worth? I mean people pay up for luxury goods but this, as you rightly put, is a shoe worth 30 bucks and even then Nike earns a fortune in profits.
