When the left admits that the great society welfare giveaways have failed the black community... maybe we can begin to discuss values and who to improve things.

almost everybody cares about what's better for the group

am I the only one who cares what's best for the individual?

the group has political parties and donors and non profit groups and who knows what all on their side

the individual is the last and most important component to society. His rights must be respected above all others.

no, when given a choice between what is best for the group and what is best for the individual I will always side with the individual, even if he is probably wrong

we will have many new groups and could stand to lose a few old ones, but once you lose the individual all things I love are lost

I always enjoyed Thomas Sowell, not because I agreed with him but because he pissed so many democrats off because he was "Black."

Could you give us the gist why the democrats can't admit failure?
 
Unfortunately there is not a short answer. But ask yourself this: If you were an intellectual progressive in power and you believe that you know what is better for an individual than the individual does, would you be able to accept you were wrong if you realized that the individual didn't need you after all? Where would that leave you if you accepted that?

The intellectual would not be able to accept this because in his mind it's not possible for the individual to not need him.


It's along these lines that Sowell speaks. If you search the web, I believe there are some youtube videos out there where you can hear his thoughts directly from him regarding intellectuals of the left. Incidentally, you may not know that he was a hard core Marxist in his younger days.

otherwise, I am a little itty bitty guy, so I need the group to defend me against big mean guys

perhaps we need to strike a balance between my individual rights and the good of the group

I'm cool with that as long as my personal individual rights are considered supreme and have first crack at any kind of compromise

so to reiterate, the community organizers are primarily concerned about the group. The group will do just fine. They always have. But the individual is an endangered species and must be protected at all cost. Especially as to how much it costs the community organizers to protect him (they don't like us.)

they are very cool with lowering profits for some corp to protect an animal, but they can't tolerate lowering tax revenue to protect an individual. (they like animals, but they don't like us.)
 
Every zealot for every cause believes their idea is not only the best idea, it is incumbent upon you to accept the idea. Consequently they refuse to bend an inch. They have achieved what we mere mortals struggle with. Absolute certainty. That is how people with crazy ass ideas sleep at night. They truly believe they're right.
