The word reparations should be striken from the dictionary and political discourse and never used again along with woke and other similar phrases people use without any intelligence.
No one owes anyone reparations.
Japan invaded and brutally raped northern China. Germany decimated Europe. Dutch fucked over South Africa. Britain was a brutal colonial power.....
This is sad history and those responsible were forced out of power, defeated in war, overthrown or subsequently replaced. I understand the idea of fixing the direct harm you caused and being responsible to assist those you decimated but those are immediate actions as was done after WWII.
To talk about something 200-300 years ago up to 70 years ago and make a country pay money to another as though that fixes something or that victims will even see a dime assuming you can locate actual victims or descendants..or even limit it to a real group because then everyone will claim they need to get paid.
Fix the problems you have now and remember history...that is the reparations that need to be "paid". It took the U.S. over 100 years to even TRY to fix the horrors of slavery, Japan only recently apologized for China actions. Dutch gave up apartheid after it was ripped from their hands. That is the problem..not writing a check.
