I haven't been formally taught anything about it either for over 30 years but I do things like read. Do you ever look at the Nat Geo magazine? Watch Discovery channel? Being out of college is no excuse for being ignorant.

I've stayed out of the global warming debate because my personal views are in line that humans have to be causing some changes to the climate. What those changes are I am not qualified to say.
But your statement above is a very poor comparison.
The argument against the idiot in the clip is because of her stupidity. Yes, it is science that tells us any global warming would have nothing to do with an asteroid. But in the second comparison, the argument is against scientists who are allowing their political viewpoints to influence their scientific findings, or are not interpreting the data correctly (or what the opposing side considers to be correct). The first issue is black and white. The second is far more convoluted.
