Well, if you like VERIFICATIONS, there are no verifications it was shot down by rebels (although we have very, very good reasons to assume they did). Look how every news outlet uses words 'allegedly' or smth like 'according to Ukrainian interior minister'.
It was reported a week ago that rebels got access to Buk missile system at a captured garrison, so, perhaps, that's where they got it?

Allegedly, if this was done by the rebels, they could have used the hardware taken from the Ukrainian army. This would have nothing to do with Putin.
