CNBC coverage of Sebelius testimony

Quote from CaptainObvious:

Only a couple of questions need to be asked.
1. If you knew people would be kicked off their existing plans, for whatever reason, why did the president say with absolute certainty that they wouldn't? And if he lied about this, what else did he lie about?
2. Explain to me how a hundred bucks a month in premiums, a 5200 dollar deductible, and 39 dollar co-pays is "affordable" to someone making 30K a year?
3. Who was the genius that decided to provide quotes based on everyone under 50 being 27 years of age and in good health?

Typical liberal answer-

1) He didn't say that. You misunderstood the mighty Obama. Fox news lies.

2) You don't understand the complex ACA system. It's affordable for everyone!

3) George Bush

Quote from Clubber Lang:

CNBC keeps cutting to commercial or another brief segment for almost every republican questioning Sebelius, then they go back to the hearing for the Democrats questioning (praising of the ACA).

Anyone else watching this nonsense?

Fucking MSM is a disgrace.

Actually the MSM controls reality for many of us, enough to sway elections. Whoever owns the MSM can march the rest of the world in any direction they wish.

On #1, no one is saying that Obama didn't utter those words, only that there were more words both before and after them. Aka, context.

Re #3: it's the media's fault.

Quote from Ricter:

If you read the entire content of Obama's speech, which includes that sentence, you'll see that certain provisions have to be met. I'm not addressing gwb's situation specifically.

Yep, it's that darn fine print that gets us every time. Just a wee bit disingenuous to demagogue the insurance companies for all their fine print, but then us it as a defense when it protects the administration.
Fact is, they knew telling the whole truth in no uncertain terms would not play well, so they muddied it up, covered it up, until it was too late for anyone to do anything about it. Now they're trying to put a shine on the turd by telling people that their coverage sucked, and this new plan will be better coverage. While they may or may not be true, the consumer should have the choice to determine for themselves what kind of coverage is adequate for them, and how much they, and they alone will determine how much they're willing to pay. Those individual rights have been taken away. Quite the irony coming from the group who paint themselves as the "defenders" of people rights.
It's not the Affordable Care Act. It is in fact the Accessible care Act. I have access to walk into a Maserati dealership anytime I like. Whether or not I can afford one is entirely up to me. What the government is doing is telling me I must by the Maserati so long as they come up with some creative way to finance it. That creative way being YOU get to make some of the payments on MY car, and we're both getting hosed on the payment plan. Neither you, nor I should be happy about that.

Re #3: it's the media's fault.

He certainly implied it, the general belief fostered by his statement was exactly that ... If you have insurance and like it - you can keep it. He's had ample opportunities to correct the position and failed to do so.

Im sick and tired of all the political word games, I didn't say that or that way, what I meant was blah blah blah. Grow a set , quit dodging blame, pointing fingers and start acting like a President.

Folks, it's broke I take the blame, and I'm going to fix it.

Problem is, there is no fixing it, it's a bad bill and everyone knows it. But no one on the left want's to do the right thing and admit it, they'd rather let a crap bill that will hurt everyone continue than take some heat and do whats right, start over and fix it.

Quote from Grandluxe:

Can't stand that bastard congressman who kept saying to the Republicans it's the law, you must obey it. Sheesh.

That's such a weak argument, I don't know why Republicans don't hit back. There are any number of laws this admin has chosen not to enforce.

DOMA

Immigration

just to name two.

That's BS to claim that Obama had qualifiers. He said " if you like your plan, you can keep it, Period."

He said the same thing repeatedly.

What happened was the law grandfathers policies from 2010, ie they do not have to include the costly mandates that drive up the cost of Obamacare. However, HHS then issued regs that said if your plan had changed at all, it lost it's status as being grandfathered. Plans frequently have minor changes in things like co-pays, net works, coverages, etc, so most plans that should have been grandfathered magically were subject to being cancelled. Most likely, the insureres were complicit in that, as they didn't want a lot of people getting bargains when they could gouge them.

Basically, what has happened is exactly what those who opposed Obamacare said would happen and which Obama repeatedly denied would happen.

So get your parents ready for the death panels.

You can't make this stuff up.

HealthCare.gov suffers outage as Sebelius testifies that it's never crashedPoor timing was redefined in Washington on Wednesday.

During her testimony at a congressional hearing regarding the "debacle" of the HealthCare.gov launch, Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that while she acknowledges serious problems with the site, it "has never crashed. It is functional, but at a very slow speed and very low reliability, and has continued to function."

Cue the website crashing.

Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., said, "Let's put the screenshot up," referring to an image of the offline site that reads, "The system is down at the moment."

Via CNN's transcript:

BLACKBURN: I want to go to the cost of the website and talk about the website. This is what is happening right now with the website. We've had somebody in the back trying to sign on. It is down. It is not working. Last week I asked for the cost from each of the contractors that were with us last week. So can you give me a ballpark on what you have spent on this website that does not work, that individuals cannot get to? What is your cost estimate?
SEBELIUS: So far, Congresswoman, we have spent about $118 million on the website itself, and about $56 million has been expended on other IT to support the web.

BLACKBURN: OK. Would you submit a detailed accounting of exactly what has been spent? And when do you expect constituents to stop getting these kind of error messages?

SEBELIUS: Again, I was with the -- I talked to the president of Verizon over the weekend on two occasions. Verizon hosts the cloud, which is not part of the website. It is a host for a number of websites. The Verizon system was taken down Saturday night into Sunday. It was down almost all day Sunday. They had an additional problem that they notified us about yesterday and it continues on. So I'd be happy to talk to the president of Verizon and get him to give you...

One can argue about the differences between an outage and a crash and what it means when a website is "down," but for many, a crashed website simply means it's inaccessible. During a key moment of Sebelius's testimony, that's what the site was.

I have not seen any of these "hearings". But judging from the recent IRS dog and pony show they should be called "grandstandings" , not "hearings." I'm not sure any of these congessmen are hearing much of anything. I resent having to pay my share of their salaries if they are not going to work together to figure out what to do to help the HHS implement Romney care so that it works smoothly. I think we would do best to send them all packing and start over with a clean slate.

The ACA is terrible, but much better than what we had before. Maybe by the time I die the U.S. will have decent health care that is affordable and accessible to all. But I kinda doubt it. In the end, this whole chapter will be just one more step toward the inevitable.
