Now they're bringing their children to the protests and setting up make-shift daycare centers in the street for the sole purpose to impede / stop the Ottawa Police from arresting anyone. :wtf:

Children's Aid Society urges Ottawa convoy protesters to make arrangements for kids' care

The Children's Aid Society of Ottawa is warning parents who have brought children to the "Freedom Convoy" occupation downtown to ensure their kids can be cared for in case they're arrested.

"The Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa (CASO) is urging parents at the demonstration in Ottawa to make the necessary alternate care arrangements should they become unable to care for their children following potential police action," the CASO said in a statement Wednesday.

This comes as Ottawa police hand out leaflets to the demonstrators still entrenched in the capital's downtown core and parliamentary precinct, warning them that their continued presence could soon result in their arrest...

Let us see...a Freedom Convoy organized by alt-right Covidiots that are encouraging protesters to bring their children into the protest to try to prevent the protesters from being arrested.

In the meantime, schools have been in person for several weeks now. That would imply these kids are not in school.

The result will be Protesters with children in the protest will have their children put into child protection agency until another relative can come to claim the children by a court order.

On a side note, the Freedom Convoy in Ottawa was so impressed by the Québec Police that showed up to remove the truckers and protesters from Ottawa's red zone around the capitol...

They plan to return to Québec City for a 2nd protest but this time they will bring entertainment, musical performances, meditation sessions, and dancing girls.

Ottawa police arrest over 100 in push to end convoy blockade

  • Ottawa police say over 100 arrests have been made so far, 21 vehicles have been towed and Officers have successfully moved protesters past the intersection of Mackenzie Avenue on Rideau Street.
  • In a tweet Friday, Conservative interim leader Candice Bergen says that she is “disturbed and saddened” by what is happening in Ottawa today and called for MPs to return to the House tomorrow to “stop the overreach by this government.”
  • Ottawa police say demonstrators “are assaulting officers” and attempting to seize their weapons.
  • Police added that “all means of de-escalation have been used.”
Police are in the midst of an operation to clear out the so-called “Freedom Convoy” that has been encamped for 22 days in the nation’s capital, with over 100 individuals arrested so far, some convoy organizers issuing calls for participants to retreat, and snow barricades being built up on the streets.

The operation by law enforcement and tactical teams from multiple jurisdictions has been largely peaceful though police are equipped with tear gas and a range of other law enforcement tools in their bid to remove the encampment. Police say over 100 people are now in custody, including Pat King, a prominent organizer with the demonstrations.

Mounted units are also on scene and on Friday afternoon, convoy organizer B.J. Dichter tweeted that he has left the city and plans to “disconnect for a few days.”

“The operational plan is moving ahead as expected,” said Steve Bell, interim chief of the Ottawa Police Service. “We’re in control of the situation on the ground and continue to push ahead.”

Bell said there has been one minor injury so far to an officer, and declined to provide any update on the number of officers taking part in the operation to end the blockade.

He pointed to both the Emergencies Act as well as the provincial state of emergency and municipal injunction against the convoy as tools that “created the ability for us to use new and existing powers to be able to properly deal with the demonstration and ultimately bring it to an end.”

“Without the authorities that have been provided to us through these pieces of legislation, we wouldn’t be able to be doing the work we are today,” Bell said.

“We will run this operation 24 hours a day until the residents and community have their entire city back.”

Police issued a tweet, however, on Friday evening as the sun began to set in Ottawa and temperatures begin to drop even further, saying that “protesters are assaulting officers, have attempted to remove officer’s weapons.”

“All means of de-escalation have been used to move forward in our goal of returning Ottawa to it’s normalcy,” police said.

As of roughly 5:30 p.m. Eastern, police could be seen with batons in hand as they pushed forward into the demonstration.

Police have been moving steadily through the eastern side of the core, beginning on Nicholas Street and Rideau Street earlier this morning and moving up towards Sussex Drive and the National War Memorial.

Demonstrators encamped on Wellington Street, which runs east-west in front of Parliament Hill, and Kent Street, which intersects Wellington Street running south, remain tightly packed.

Many are in the process of shovelling a fresh layer of snow and using it to build barricades, with a number of pickup trucks packed high with snow seen shuttling it between different areas of the city.

Police say some demonstrators remaining in the convoy are placing children between themselves and officers as law enforcement pushes to clear out the remaining blockades of the capital.

Ottawa police also warned journalists covering the operation to “keep a distance and stay out of police operations for your safety.”

“Anyone found within areas undergoing enforcement may be subject to arrest.”

A media availability will take place later in the day, police said.

One convoy organizer, B.J. Dichter, said in a tweet that “it’s time to leave.”

Parliament nixed plans for both the House of Commons and the Senate to meet on Friday over the Emergencies Act invocation, with House leaders expressing security concerns.

That debate has centred around questions from the Conservatives and Bloc Quebecois over whether the Emergencies Act was warranted, contrasted with the government’s defence of the move.

Minister of Justice David Lametti said the illegal blockades, while national in scope, have harmed certain cities, mainly Ottawa — and required a strong response.

“To those who claim that the disturbing situation is not a national emergency, I encourage them to talk to their fellow Canadians who have been living through it — the residents of downtown Ottawa.”

In a press conference, Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino also said that police were not overstepping by arresting convoy demonstrators.

“The powers are being exercised responsibility, they’re being exercised in a manner that is proportional to the circumstances and in a manner that is consistent with the Charter,” he said.

Mendicino added that “police officers from across the country” including as far away from Vancouver were engaged in the operations in Ottawa...

A class action lawsuit against the “Freedom Convoy” in downtown Ottawa has added 31 new named defendants and ballooned to a $306-million claim for the disruption to lives and livelihoods from the now three-week old occupation.

The claim has also expanded to include anyone who donated to the convoy after Feb. 4, the day the organizers’ initial GoFundMe campaign was cancelled when the fundraising platform said it had evidence “that the previously peaceful demonstration has become an occupation, with police reports of violence and other unlawful activity.”

Two prominent downtown restaurant owners and a ByWard market server who’s been out of work since the demonstration began have also added their names as plaintiffs, alongside 21-year-old Zexi Li. Henry Assad, owner of the Happy Goat, and Ivan Gedz of Union Local 613, joined the lawsuit along with server Geoffrey Devaney.

The amended lawsuit was announced at a Thursday morning media conference by Ottawa lawyer Paul Champ, who on Wednesday successfully extended an injunction to silence demonstrators’ truck horns for another 60 days.

Champ said private investigators had been gathering information about the trucks at the demonstration, logging licence plates and tracing owners through provincial registries.

“It’s time to stop,” Champ said. “All the individual truckers who are still in downtown Ottawa, still causing mayhem, still causing chaos, still causing disruption to the residents and businesses of downtown Ottawa, it’s time to go home. And when you get home, I strongly recommend you get independent legal advice. Don’t listen anymore to the organizers. You’ve been led down a path that, unfortunately, is going to cause you some serious financial consequences.”

“Anyone who has materially contributed financially to the continuing occupation of downtown Ottawa knew what they were doing. Particularly the people who contributed to GiveSendGo who by that time knew the unlawful behaviour of the convoy participants,” he said.

“Those people knew that the air horns and rail horns were tormenting the people and businesses of downtown Ottawa and causing harm. And they wanted that to continue.”

Assad said he had to temporarily close three of his Happy Goat locations and many of his employees have been harassed and threatened.

“We need to take back our city,” Assad said. “Our city is being held hostage.”

As a restaurant owner, Assad says he’s in favour of easing the COVID-19 restrictions in place.

“But the methods and the organization behind the protest is very dangerous.”

Gedz said his business is down 25-50 per cent since the occupation began because people don’t want to come downtown.

“I’ve spent a lot of time walking around these protests … and on any given day it seems like something out of Mad Max movie. I don’t think people who haven’t been downtown realize just how bad it is.”

Both Assad and Gedz said they are aware of the extreme online backlash they could endure by coming forward. They’ve warned staff to distance themselves from the businesses on social media.

“If us as an organization can put ourselves forward and perhaps shield some of the hostility, we’re happy to do that,” Gedz said.

The statement of claim also expands the area covered by the class action from Bronson Avenue in the west, Somerset Street in the south and into the ByWard Market. It now includes up to 12,000 residents and hundreds of businesses, including the Rideau Centre which has reported it’s losing $3 million a day.

Among those named as defendants are convoy organizers Chris Barber, Benjamin Dichter, Tamara Lich, Patrick King, James Bauder, Tom Marazzo and its purported security advisor, ex-Mountie Chris Bulford.

Champ urged the named defendants to find lawyers and contact his firm.

“Reach out to me. We’re prepared to offer early settlement,” he said. “If you don’t, make no mistake. This is not going to be over when the trucks finally leave and the last truck horn blasts across downtown Ottawa.”

You could very well lose your rights, just like the truckers. Think Justin Trudeau will not do it to you? Hell, this emergency declaration was rubber stamped by majority of the Canadian Parliament should scare all Canadians. You are next!
 
A global map of the protests around the world and about 25 of them are related to Covid restrictions. Yet, a small number of them involve protesting that their government isn't doing enough mandates/restrictions...

Not mentioned below is that 1/4 of the protests are related to "food insecurity".

Anyways, to keep it in perspective...Canada and the United States are doing pretty good in comparison to the rest of the world upheaval.
