We had the same thoughts of somehow moving back to futures for our currency trades with our frustration with brokers.
Eventually, we stuck with FOREX, but had to do it the hard way. Ourselves.
But the end result was that the pure interbank pricing/spreads once you strip out broker hanky-panky was amazing. If not a bit shocking.
We're talking EURUSD spreads of less than .5 pips during the day, and often 0! USDJPY only a tenth more expensive, but still lots of 0's in there during the day.
When you add in the liquidity aspect, futures could never, ever, ever compete with that.
