I think Donald's comments are a key to his world view. He thinks of his own business as an empire, which means the only rule is conquest and acquisition. No concern to the other side, no sense of what is fair, etc.
He wants the US to be Rome with The Donald as Caesar.
He doesn't view our military as defense, but as a means of conquest and taking oil when we want it through the power of our military.
That will score points with the rest of the world, for sure...
