Quote from AAAintheBeltway:
Education is the easiest. We got by without this joke of a department for over 200 years. Certainly education has not improved since its inception. In fact, it has gotten demonstrably worse. There is no constitutional justification for federalizing education, and experience has shown it to be a terrible idea from a practical standpoint. But liberals never learn. They want to separate decision-making as far as possible from the people who are directly affected and who end up getting stuck with the bill for liberals' schemes.
You're illustrating why conservatives have no clue on what they're talking about. Do you know how large the ED budget is? As a percentage of the total budget? As a fraction of Iraq war cost?
The last Clinton ED budget was 42 billion in 2001. Under Republican rule it ballooned to 100 billion in 2006. Democratic congress was able to cut it back to 67 billion in 2007 (remember the Republicans failed to pass the 2007 budget before they left congress).
It's you big government conservatives who are causing most of the wastes (remember Ted Steven's bridge to nowhere). Stop blaming it on liberals.
