I'll bet you won't even care why! Investors only want to know why when a stock drops.

Yeah, that is probably true.
If you're long, you only care about the reason it's going down.
If you're short, you only care about the reason it's going up.

I wish I had the gift some people have where you can just stick all of your money in an index fund and never look at it. Just can't help myself.

Index funds can drop and stay down for years. Better to have a method to protect your capital.
One of my rules is to not hold losers in my portfolio.
