youve got to split the countries in 2:

the good countries


the corrupt regimes


the good guys you give debt relief and infrastructure, education etc. this isnt just the us but the whole of the developed world. you fatten them up and then you trade with them.

you get your money back over time rather than writting it off as bad debt 30 years later.

the corrupt regime - roll in the fuckin tanks and get rid of the government. restore them to the good guys (see above). trade with them etc.

thats the world according to fred.

NO!!

iraq did NOT need economic help due to a corrupt regeime.

it just happened to have a corrupt regeime (by western standards) - that was all.

the usa was happily trading with iraq for years. LOOK AT ALL THE WEAPONS THE USA SOLD THEM!! iraq was a prosperous country with running water in all homes.

NOW IRAQ IS A SHELL WITH NO CONTROL OVER ITS OWN RESOURCE - THE OIL. IS THAT FAIR TO THE AVERAGE IRAQI CITIZEN WHO HATED SADDAM MORE THAN ANY AMERICAN EVER COULD? iraqi citizens are now almost a 3rd world country, and the debt relief coming from the us tax payer will continue for years to come.

Iraw is a shining example of why you do not want a regime such as Saddam to have economic success. Yes the US once traded with Iraw, even in weapons adn you saw the result of that in 1991. Since then the UN sanctions severly limited the economic prosperity of Iraq which severly impeded the economy and negatively affected the lives of your Average Iraqi. It will take a few years to fix the problems caused by anctions but at least now when Iraq does start to enjoy economic success adn power hopefully some retard like Saddam will not be running the show. This will not happen overnight as you may think it should. It will likely take a decade or longer and in reality real benefits will not be lasting until after a generation or two. Removing Saddam was only the first step adn a baby step at that. To expect anythgin else is naivette.

i have to agree with most of that (see options007 - it aint hard :D )

BUT....

1/ the death of young americans was sold on wmds. NOT removing a little tinker from power and NOT for oil.

2/ what about the average iraqi citizen? they are the pawns in all of this. they never asked saddam to be a wanker - just like they never asked americans & brits to demolish their infrastructure, kill their family or take away their livelihoods.

polls show that the average iraqi sees his life as being significantly worse since the invasion than under saddam.
