Assange says WikiLeaks to release 'significant' Clinton campaign data

WikiLeaks founder and editor-in-chief Julian Assange said on Wednesday his organization planned to release "significant" information linked to the campaign of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton before the Nov. 8 election.

Asked if the data could be a game-changer in the election, the Australian told Fox News in an interview conducted by satellite: "I think it's significant. You know, it depends on how it catches fire in the public and in the media."

Assange has been living in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London for five years to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he faces sexual assault accusations. He denies the allegations.

WikiLeaks released files in July of what it said were audio recordings pulled from the emails of the Democratic National Committee that were obtained by hacking its servers....

U.S. paid $1.3 billion to Iran two days after cash delivery

The Obama administration said Wednesday it paid $1.3 billion in interest to Iran in January to resolve a decades-old dispute over an undelivered military sale, two days after allowing $400 million in cash to fly to Tehran.

State Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau says the U.S. couldn’t say more about the Jan. 19 payments because of diplomatic sensitivities. They involved 13 separate payments of $99,999,999.99 and final payment of about $10 million. There was no explanation for the Treasury Department keeping the individual transactions under $100 million....

Does Huma Abedin have ‘ties’ to the Muslim Brotherhood?

“Why aren’t we talking about Huma [Abedin] and her ties to the Muslim Brotherhood? Why aren’t we talking about the fact that she was an editor for a Sharia newspaper?”

— Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.), interview on CNN, Aug. 23, 2016

Huma Abedin is a longtime aide to Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee for president, having worked for her when Clinton was first lady, a senator and secretary of state. Abedin is now vice chair of the Clinton campaign. She is married to former representative Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), who resigned in disgrace over sex-tinged social media posts.

But Abedin has also been the subject of suspicion on the right, given that she grew up in Saudi Arabia (after being born in Kalamazoo, Mich.) before attending George Washington University.

Roger Stone, a top adviser to GOP nominee Donald Trump, described Abedin on Aug. 23 as a “Saudi asset.” [:wtf:] Her name popped in the news again after the New York Post published an article Aug. 21 titled, “Huma Abedin worked at a radical Muslim journal for a dozen years” what Duffy was referring to when he said she was “an editor for a Sharia newspaper.”

The Muslim Brotherhood is a Sunni Islamic movement that is a force in Middle Eastern politics — and labeled by some countries as a terrorist organization.

Duffy made this statement as he decried what he considered the media’s obsession with controversies around Trump, while ignoring issues involving Clinton. Let’s explore whether Duffy’s assertions about Abedin hold water.

Rep. Keith Ellison, center, is gaining the support of Democratic Party leaders.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Sunday endorsed Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) as the next chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

“My friend Keith Ellison is a terrific leader and a strong progressive who knows how to get things done,” Reid said in a statement provided to The Huffington Post. “Now is the time for new thinking and a fresh start at the DNC. Now is the time for Keith.”

Ellison has not formally declared his candidacy for the DNC post, which would make him the formal head of the Democratic Party. But he has been building support for a bid among party insiders, according to multiple sources. Reid’s successor as Senate Democratic leader, Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), has endorsed Ellison, as has Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) told MSNBC Thursday that Ellison “would make a terrific DNC chair.” A Sanders petition backing Ellison has already garnered over 520,000 signatures, according to a source close to Sanders.

The DNC post is widely viewed as the opening skirmish in a battle over the future direction of the Democratic Party. Though she shifted left during the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton hailed from a centrist, corporate-friendly Democratic wing that has long dominated the party’s leadership. Progressives believe that faction was discredited by Clinton’s loss to Donald Trump.

Ellison co-chairs the Congressional Progressive Caucus and has been a steadfast supporter of workers over corporate interests during his time in office. He would be the first Muslim DNC chair and the third black person to hold the position...

Howard Dean would be a disaster as chair of the DNC. Anything, anything, to stop a Bernie Sanders like candidate.

Keep the "Democratic" party under the control of the Corporations.
