WASHINGTON (AP) — Attorney General William Barr has authorized federal prosecutors across the U.S. to pursue “substantial allegations” of voting irregularities, if they exist, before the 2020 presidential election is certified, despite no evidence of widespread fraud.
Barr’s action comes days after Democrat Joe Biden defeated President Donald Trump and raises the prospect that Trump will use the Justice Department to try to challenge the outcome. It gives prosecutors the ability to go around longstanding Justice Department policy that normally would prohibit such overt actions before the election is certified.

Trump campaign asks rural Pa. federal judge to block certification of election results
WILLIAMSPORT – President Trump’s reelection campaign has asked a federal judge in rural Pennsylvania to stop election boards in seven counties and commonwealth Secretary Kathy Boockvar from certifying the results of the Nov. 3 election.
As alternatives, the suit filed Monday evening in U.S. Middle District Court by Donald J. Trump for President Inc. and two electors ask Judge Matthew W. Brann for orders preventing the certification of results that include the tabulation of:
- Absentee and mail-in ballots for which the plaintiffs' watchers were prevented from observing./p
