Nutmeg. Good post on the history. Country is hard to pin down exactly. For instance, would a song about a seabound fishing boat be considered "Country"? I think so. Country is about regular working folks. Under the big umbrella of Folk Music. Blues, Gospel and Celtic, throw in Western and you pretty much got it.
