CL Redux

I assume you change the quote so it could fit here. The original relates to gold. I don't believe there was an organized market for oil as early as 1869.

Quote from Visaria:

on what basis?

"Listen. A man was talking to Jim Fisk a little before
Black Friday, giving ten good reasons why OIL ought to go down
for keeps. He got so encouraged by his own words that he ended
by telling Fisk that he was going to sell a few million. And Jim
Fisk just looked at him and said, "Go ahead! Do! Sell it short
and invite me to your funeral."'

Quote from theansw3r:

There was an announcement that the TransCanada pipeline from Cushing to the gulf coast was going to open in early Jan. 700kbpd pipeline drawing supplies from Cushing => bullish for oil.

Although I trade price action and news is meaningless to me, I'm curious where this sort of news is announced.
