CL Redux

Quote from NoDoji:

I don't think I've ever participated in anything quite like this. I'm just gonna watch

I think there's ECB news.

I noticed recently that the margin requirements for CL came down significantly. From 7K to about 5.5K? Could this have lead to simply more risk taking in CL and that has now self-corrected? So nothing fancy in the news, etc. Just markets doing their job?

Similar fluctuations (though over a longer time frame) have occured last year when margin requirements were changed for gold and silver.

I thought that the margin change was related to the FOMC meeting concluding.

Quote from EON Kid:

Last Trading Day: Trading terminates at the close of business on the third business day prior to the 25th calendar day of the month preceding the delivery month. If the 25th calendar day of the month is a non-business day, trading shall cease on the third business day prior to the last business day preceding the 25th calendar day.

Volume change over usually falls on the 17th /18th of the month. Check volume here

I change over after the day that runs at about 50% volume on both, which was Friday

Quote from WongKokHoong:

Check out the DOM ... a lot of single digit bids/offers ... strange?

Traders are beginning to roll over positions from October contract to November. Trading for October ceases 3 busniness days before the 25th. That means everyone needs to be out by Thursday. So they methodically start selling October and buying November at the same time trying to keep as close to the bid/ask spread for both contracts as they buy and sell.

I don't see a margin change for gold though. Actually the only change i seem to see is for the Yen. Did not check euro though.
