Hi RA, I don't think your calls were shitty, were they? I don't really remember because I was kind of new to trading CL live back then and usually closed my eyes when I traded it back then.

You could say I swing but I usually use options or alternative uncorrelated instruments instead of hard stops. Might hold for 8 days or 8 mins.
R:R seems pretty good here looking for 80.50ish but it seems obvious that if we go above 81.90 we go to 83.50 fast so that would be the line in the sand for me. I also found it interesting that OVX ticked up today with an up day on the CL. So did ES and VIX. Probably means nothing but the VIX cued me into that end of day rally on friday in the ES (es down and vix down).

I find OVX unhelpful as an index and no longer track it.
I now record the ATR for each day and that helps in reading the volitility of the market.
So far the 20 day ATR for CL is about 1.6. That's 160 ticks.
But this average is somewhat misleading because you hardly see a range that is around that level.
Ususally there is either a below average range or an above average range.
The ATR for below average days is about 1.1. And the ATR for higher than average days is nearly double at around 2.1.
