ok, I officially transition to swing trade this thing. Daytrading in constant sub 1 dollar range just doesn't work.

Agreed. As long at VIX stays at or near these levels, daytrading is going to be very difficult.

I would start thinking about devising a longer-term strategy (longer-term in trading terms, meaning days not intra-day).

CL has become more of a mean-reversion trade since the ban on bank prop desks has eliminated the bigger players. Look at the candle bars on a daily chart...just huge wicks up and down with small bodies = algo heaven.
