I guess self destruct is semi automatic , meaning it may need some kind of trigger from a special ( CIA phone ) kind of cell phone to send destruct signal.
Think about it , if it happened in Pakistan/Afghanistan inside a city , on top of damage by drone collapse , If it self destructs see the kind of damage.
- these are 2 countries where US has major drones , so this trigger based destruct makes sense.
Now coming back to IRAN , I guess CIA can not send any trigger signal to initiate self destruct , as no CIA agent can go closer to IRAN collapse site ...
They do have a self destruct mechanism!!!

Any reasonable person from US understands how Presidency works. It is not just Presidents decision . There is CIA , Pentagon , Sec. of State whole set of top level delegates who work on these decisions .
If a president say NO to any US security interest , he will be exposed in public in weeks time.
Then why the president ordered drone on Alaki in Yemen few months ago ? where does your theory of 'NOT to upset' those group of people go here ?
