CL Redux

I would consider these 2 as Swing entries for CL today with small stops like .25

- if ONE had conviction about the price Range of the DAY , tomorrow being Friday ( for that 111.80 ) and other Fundamental based view on OIL price.

- SHORT 113.90 level
- LONG 111.80 level ( at last one hour )

These may not fit the classic Swing definition .. but for CL I am referring it loosely ..

Here we do tons of JUNK trades for CL in a day, in that sense even though these are intra day trades, for the SPEED of CL I consider these as Swing ...

Saving on commission and spread too!!!

Can you tell me what a swing trade is?

Bottom line what ever name you give , what matters making profitable TRADES ... :p

We did not see much success with traditional Swing trades on CL on this tread ..

time to time we see people posting long trades , but no follow up of closing etc..

What Does Swing Trading Mean?

A style of trading that attempts to capture gains in a stock within one to four days.
- that one day still qualifies ...

So a swing trade is picking a top or bottom with a tight stop?

These are intraday position trades as opposed to scalps.

Also the 4-10-11 HOD was 114.05. Pretty much a double top.

ADD If it breaks through 114 strongly we may see a breakout move up of another few points. Stay tuned.

I was one of those rabid bulls, certain we'd get a breakout of that high. After closing out the long @ 113.90 (Don, if we ever meet at a trader expo or something, I'll buy you a really nice dinner for that one), I bought 113.85, stopped out @ 113.82, then not one to be easily dissuaded, I bought 113.77 and it looked so ripe for the breakout as it excitedly approached HOD and...fizzled, and then, still filled with trend-following breakout fever, I bought 113.73 and up she went, this was THE ONE, the BIG ONE, of that I was certain as price broke the previous 5-min bar high, and then...fizzled again off a 2nd lower high???

Three failed attempts to test 14.05.

"Screw that!" said I, "This is a failure! That 113.97 looks suspiciously like a (gasp) Double Top formation!"

I believe there's a well-worn saying in trading: "If price tries to do something three times and fails, it will usually do the opposite."

As I recall the indexes backed off at about the same time. And at times today it was tuned into those. You know how CL is, it hangs with you for awhile and then without even saying anything takes off on its own. Not a very good date perhaps. :) How was it you put it? "No, CL lives in a cave far from civilization. It answers to no index!" and I said ":D Sometimes it answers. or pretends to, and then it changes it's mind. :)

The knock three times thing sometimes plays out that it takes three times to break through. (Don't worry guys I won't post the Tony Orlando video again. :p )

What was that last second volatility on the indexes? Tremendous spikes up and down. Weird.

TF went from 857.8 to 867.2 in about 5 seconds and then back down.

ADD That's almost a $1000 move on one contract. What a day. :)
