March 3 (Bloomberg) -- Oil dropped from the highest close in 29 months in New York, falling as low as $100.37 a barrel.

Crude fell as much as 1.8 percent, the biggest intraday decline in a week, after the Wall Street Journal reported that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi and offered to help create a multinational mediation commission.

It ain't a rumor. Aljazeera reported that the Arab League has endorsed the plan.

What about Gaddafi? He really has no other choice. If he doesn't accept this offer, the only alternative is being bombed by Nato and possibly be killed. His best bet at the moment is to strike a deal where he can leave the country with his dignity intact.

I don't think it's as simple as that. France, a NATO member is reluctant , to interfere. Russia also said NIET on a no-fly zone as did China (although I don't know how they say no). Obama & administration is hesitant to interfere? Why? It could set the wrong precedent and he does not want to go down to road Bush did on acting as the world police.

Lastly, the Arab League and even some of the protestors are against foreign intervention. All the media is anti-Gaddafi, you don't hear anything on what he could do until he actually does it.

Agree. With the assessment below , here is my add

All this international mediation is about gaddafi $80 billion frozen money.
He will promise constitutional changes and elections in 6 months. All this drama is to buy few Months
If given chance he wanted to cash all those frozen assets , then he is happy to leave.

Off course protesters wants nothing other than his leaving now.

We saw this reform promise movie in Cairo just a month ago already And we know the end result
