Citadel Takes Over Most Sowood Assets After 50% Loss

Quote from marketsurfer:

no. you are very wrong here, hedge fund is for YOU the client to HEDGE your PORTFOLIO. Hedge funds normally don't hedge themselves but rather shoot for outsized gains. a hedge fund should only be used by you to HEDGE your other investments--or potentially as a high risk/high return portion of your assets.

Not really Surf. The term hedge originated through the convert arb and long/short fund styles. It was to define the fund, not the client.

yes, the original meaning, your correct. but now, most hedge funds should be thought of as a hedge for the client and/ or a high risk/high reward play--retaining the integrity of the term..

otherwise, what's the point when there are far safer ways to match market returns.

A VERY significant event this is.
it's relative, for example
One thing is certain about the Iraq war: It has cost a lot more than advertised. In fact, the tab grows by at least $200 million each and every day.
