Church Tax, Wadda ya think?

Who ends up screwing more little old ladies out of money?

Religious frauds, or stock/investment brokers?

Quote from omegapoint:

Wonder how many little old ladies who did't know any better have left their entire estates to these snake oil salesmen?

You wouldn't want to take away our Freedoms would you!:D

So deregulation of the financial industry, oil industry, energy industry, health care industry is in the best interest of the American people?

A brief review of the type of corruption we see in unregulated industry would convince any sane thinker that it is as necessary to monitor the behavior of industry as it is to monitor the behavior of politicians...

Unfortunately, this country doesn't do a good job of monitoring the activity of the politicians, when write the laws to promote industry going unregulated...

If it was the law to enact better regulation, there couldn't be any complaint...because it is the law...right?

Thing is, you can have all the regulation in the world but if it isn't enforced then its all for show. Thats what appeals courts are for.
Again, freedom.

If we look to the major problems in America since 1990, I find only a natural disaster like Katrina to be not have been preventable.

Who was fired following 9/11 for not doing their jobs to prevent a 9/11?

It is really pathetic that Americans don't have pride in their country such that they do their jobs properly.

Had Americans done their job properly, we would not have had 9/11, the housing bubble, General Motors BK, BP, etc., etc., etc.

When greed is elevated to virtue the way America has done in the past few decades, the consequence is rampant corruption and sloth.

It is epidemic, and no one really cares. No politicians blame the people of America...the blame always goes to "government" "the terrorists" this party, that party...

Genuinely a revolting situation...

I have no doubt that the founders of this country would be sickened at all of our institutions at this time...because of the level of individual corruption in every institution...

Of course you're right. The buck is the most passed around hot potato.

Interesting in the spirit of what your write, where yesterday instant replay would have granted a Yankee pitcher a perfect game had it been referred to. A tag at first clearly beat the runner. But in spite of that it was grantable the commissionor still wouldn't grant it.

It's unconstitutional. If the state had tax power over churches it would be tantamount to controlling religious freedom through manipulation. Surely, you have heard of the "separation of church and state".

You got it bass ackwards dude, the tax break is Government supporting religion.
Separation of church and state does not mean tax exempt.
Have you even read the constitution?

...or the national endowment for the arts or the IRS (sales or flat tax) or the dept. of energy (created to reduce our dependence on foreign oil) or the dept. of education (should be handled locally) or the African Development Foundation or donations to the UN or foreign aid to countries that hate our fucking guts or the Commission on International Religious Freedom or HUD or the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform (HA!) or the National Endowment for the Humanities or the Office of National Drug Control Policy or the Office of Thrift Supervision or the USPS or Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration or the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars.

Great list and it only scratches the surface. I fully understand that all of these together don;t make a dent in the dficit, but you have tos tart somewhere. If you can't get rid of this low hanging fruit, what chance do we have?

In the upcoming elections and the 2012 presidential elections, I would love to see each candidate grilled as to whether or not they would support keeping these wasteful expenses or raising taxes. Instead however, we will get moronic journalists asking how they feel about baby seals getting covered in oil.

Churches never talk about it but the bigger ones have astounding wealth, just staggering... and they are all liberal and telling the Public Sector to help the poor more!! I never call myself a Christian, I call myself a Bible Reader and leave it at that, I'm not joining any of this weirdly distorted stuff we have riding roughshod all over us and God's name!!

Great place to start would be the unused airport John Murtha built with hundreds of millions of tax dollars -- so that he could name it after himself -- http://www.flyjohnstownairport.com/
