Wonder if someone can answer this;

I received the following similar messages on Asus and Google chromebooks:

"This is the last automatic software and security update for this Chromebook. To get future updates, upgrade to a newer model. Learn more".

Do the the manufacturers / Google discontinue updates as the hardware becomes outdated and incompatible with the software?

I've got a Google Pixelbook Pro that I use as my lightweight on-the-go computer, but I haven't seen the message you are describing... yet. But considering that all of their newer products are using their proprietary Tensor G2 processors, it doesn't surprise me that they are phasing out software updates for older products based on the Intel platform.

Yeah, with the latest and final updates, my google sheets have suddenly become very buggy.
Seems like a coincidence but its across a wide swathe of sheets.
I clear cache constantly, don't open too many tabs.
Anyhow I've asked a supplier for a quote on new ones, running hardware without security or software updates is not an option I'm keen on.
Was just wondering if the main reason for the policy was hardware related, old hardware can't cope with new updated software?

Checked if you can bypass the EOL to get the latest update but I haven’t found anything.

Guess you can download the software latest version somewhere. Maybe torrent.

I own 2 Chromebooks, one of which has had updates discontinued for over 4 years. It still works fine for almost all websites. However, any website that uses the latest HTML 5-specific features can have problems.

The updates are coming from Google, not the manufacturers. Google simply does not want to spend resources supporting very old Chromebooks, because they have to test each new update with all currently supported Chromebooks.

As for security, you don't have to worry too much. Chromebooks cannot get viruses, unless you do something low level like putting the Chromebook into Debug mode.

Yeah, not websites problem, sheets formulas buggy problem.
The web said try to un click hardware acceleration, as apparently sheets do get buggy issues, but I cant find acceleration.

Yeah I constantly clear the cache, my Chromebooks run with very little add on extensions and nothing recently, and can't run sheets on Firefox OS, needs to be via Chrome for it to operate the way I do.

The problem solved itself after a couple of days, not sure how but maybe related to my cloud subscription which was delayed due to my credit card expiring, but all sorted.
