Christopher Hitchens debates Hannity on God

Mass shootings is in part due to the availability of guns and being able to kill many people with relative ease. It's not that people are worse now than previously.

Is homelessness worse today than in the past? The rich poor divide is certainly less today compared to almost any time in history.

Nuclear weapons: they haven't been used since 1945.

Russia and the war in Ukraine: generally, war is on the decline.

China getting stroppy: is only potential for escalation into something bad. It doesn't count if it hasn't happened yet.

As a whole we're more evolved than a thousand years ago or than the 1960s/1970s. The awareness of the need to tackle climate change, LGBT rights, and the Internet. Not that it's a straight line, there are troughs. The 1960s and 1970s is a blip.
Some good valid points.
I thought this poster yesterday had an interesting perspective in this post...

Can't disagree with this, the more astounding that Hitchens could not bring forward a single argument against the existence of a creator God. Neither has he in his entire lifetime and 18 books. I share many of his diatribes against organized man-made religion, yet not one single respected and peer reviewed scientist on earth would claim that matter created itself out of nothing. This violates all laws of basic physics.

Hannity is an idiot.

Again, you clearly speak of something you know nothing about. You should read at least the first couple pages of the Bible to understand how a flawed and sinful being came about. You don't have to believe it but you should at least know the points and arguments of the other side that you attempt to debate. Otherwise it is hard to take anything you say seriously.

Humans can debate until the cows come home and never reach a conclusion, but creation as we know it is built deliberately flawed. Everything is flawed, our minds and all substance.
Things are created (life, plant matter) then deliberately destroyed by a creator.

It's as if a creator designed destruction in order that life does not gain invincibility.

No, it's called a perfectly free will. You have a problem with admitting that designing a perfectly free will in itself is not ill-intended. It is intended to let the being decide for him/herself. Just as you have a free will to decide for or against the existence of God. The creation of you was not ill-intended even if God knew beforehand you would deny him.

Ok, so the 'creator' is flawed/weak as well, it creates only for something else to come along and beat it down, undo its work? The Almighty devil again?

At the very least he is finally finding out the truth and must face his creator and account for his existence and purpose in life. Accounts being settled if you will.

Is Hitchens still alive? If not, we know where he is now. He is in Hell where he belongs. I hope he likes the warmth.

Spoken like a true christian, a know it all!

Was just thinking today about a comment made by one of your christian mates, hoping/looking forward to sinners burning in hell....

Christian say they love God, but they have little to zero respect for other humans.
They respect God so they claim, don't respect anyone not of their creed, but strangely christians respect the devil. Yeah, shit scared of him! LMAO!

You guys are so fucked up!
Thank Christ I got the fuck out of your church!

We could actually have a way more meaningful exchange of thought if you would take all the personal attacks and insults and fuxxyous toward an entire religion out of the equation. Not that I feel attacked but you kind of prevent yourself from clear thought.

I let my comment about you stand because it is blatantly clear that you know next to nothing about the Bible. Multiple comments of yours demonstrate that. So, I am not sure what exactly you have done during the time spent at some church that seemingly got you so riled up.

Back to the topic and again: the Bible answers during the first couple pages why a perfectly designed human being fell and turned into what we are today. You can reject to believe that but you can't deny the existence of the claim itself.

Dream on with the bed time stories.
It wasn't long ago Christians didn't believe in dinasours.
You all think gay people are off to hell, like they weren't human but I notice that opinion is changing.
Women, always denigrated in the bible basically, aren't allowed to lead, especially not allowed to lead in church and they need to be subservient to the male, that's now changing...
Humans, not allowed to work on the sabbath, oh that's changed now.
The bible, believe in it until it doesn't work, then, oops, change of opinion.
Noah stuffed all the animals in the world in a tub afloat ark, yeah, can't find trace of the ark, but it's a true story. Don't believe in it? That's because of lack of faith.
Bible is choc full of bullshit, glad you believe it.
