I've talked about this very subject with my wife last week, using a waffle iron my mother was given as a wedding present eons ago.

If you think Muhammed and his band attacking Jews and Mecca and then everywhere else nearby was actually part of some other long standing imperialist effort... go for it. I suggest you find a new thread.
I simply started this thread because I anticipated I could find historical evidence showing that the Christian Crusades were not the start of the conflict.

People are confusing Islam as being some united force against Christianity and vice versa. There were kingdoms and empires on both sides that distorted matters. Christian kings were fighting amongst themselves and Islamic kings amongst themselves. If it were Christians against Muslims then both parties wouldn't be having bloody fights amongst themselves.
The script has always been the same. The ruler, to keep support while people are dying wants to blame someone else for the troubles of the people. Turks attacked Safavid Empire and annexed quite a few Muslim ruled areas.
Tell me this: Is it easier to convince someone to fight on because the other has a philosophy of free trade or when the other is hell bent on destroying the religion forever?

However it does serve as a model for many leftists...
naive, reasonably intelligent (who think of themselves as brilliant), ego driven individuals put to work to achieve a goal they believe in such as a big unified govt serving the people... not realizing the more worldly politicians and power drivers actually intend to achieve the opposite.

In any case, the "worldly politicians and power drivers" were mostly Christian. Surely you're not suggesting that they intended to take advantage of those poor Muslims . . .
