As for setting the record straight, you simply continue the confusion. The conflict between East and West (the West being defined for these purposes as Europe) began long before Christ and Muhammed. Blaming it now on religious differences is only a rationalization to justify the conflict, believing that the easily-manipulated are more likely to respond to conflict based on religious differences than on differences over border. Which is of course true.

What we are seeing in the midddle east today is a battle for supremacy between shia and sunni. Both see violent conquest, expansion and religious repression as the natural order of things.
