Chris Christie endorses Donald Trump

I said I was very angry about Christie's hug at the time. But as a wag once observed "politics ain't beanbag", ie it's hardball played by conscienceless people consumed with power, ego and winning. Christie is a tough guy. Cross him and there are consequences. Romney's selection of Ryan was disastrous not just because of pissing Christie off. Ryan lacked the stature and maturity to stand up to Biden, plus his SS proposals alarmed key republican voting blocs. Romney was too full of his own ego to appreciate that. Somehow he thought making a ton of money breaking up companies made him the business equivalent of Steve Jobs or Henry Ford.

I'm not saying Christie did the right thing. He didn't. But it's not the same as dozens of others because Christie had been vetted and was at the top of the short list. To be rejected in favor of a Paul Ryan had to be a bitter blow for him.

God forbid Ryan put out a substantive proposal to fix SS. The guy actually tried to find a solution to a problem. I guess he should have stopped working on that and been putting out 5 second sound bites that would have sounded good on the news.

Romney's problem wasnt that he had too big of ego from his days at Bain. He tried to run from that. He needed to have a bigger ego and channel a bit of Trump in that case. When they started attacking him over it, he should have said 'Yeap, I worked hard made a lot of tough decisions and make a lot of money from it, thats what America is about. I was successful and that should be rewarded not punished."

The problem with Ryan's SS proposals were that they were total ego trips with no shot in hell of ever getting enacted. Fine for a think tank, not so good for a candidate for VP. I was traveling in florida and Obama ran these radio ads that were just devastating. Guy says, " I worked all my life and paid into SS and now they say I can't get it." Of course they ignored the details, etc but the essence of the ad was correct.

About the insurance mandate. I'm not even sure Trump understands what it is, but you cannot have a requirement that carriers take on people with pre-existing conditions and not address the free rider problem. Why should a young person shell out for health insurance if they can wait until they are sick? I have a problem with it from a Constitutional standpoint, but I don't see how you get around it as a practical matter, not unless you want to put people into some sort of government run program when they are get sick with no insurance.

Anyway, the republicans are not repealing obamacare. They can bluster all they want, but any repeal bill would be blocked by a filibuster from democrats.

This endorsement was valuable and imo it was exchanged for either VP (unlikely) or Supreme Court Judge... (my guess)

Its the truth. Many of us cannot vote for Christie because of "the hug".

Its hard to explain but you have to remember the atmosphere leading up to that moment. Overreaching executive orders, racial demonization and complete dismissal of the will of the people were at a kind of peak and Christie, who at that moment was perceived to be a conservative, gave Obama that hug. It carried tremendous weight and was profoundly disappointing. I could not pull the lever for a ticket with Christie on it and likely some others feel the same way.

Cabinet position? Yeah why not. VP? No freaking way! We don't want this guy breaking ties in the Senate. He is too unpredictable.

According to Donald Trump this is one of the tenants of negotiation. You start by asking for something you know you wont get but you set the bar high. When Trump does it, he is a genius, when Ryan does it, he is an asshole? What gives?

Ryan pretends to be a conservative but he is really a big govt pre fascist crony beholden sellout traitor to those he pretends to represent.

I am not sure what Trump is, but I believe he will stop this insane immigration policy.

I don't say Ryan is an asshole for proposing changes to SS. I just say it was foolish of him, particularly if he harbored ambitions of running for national office. They don't call it the third rail of politics for nothing.

Look, it's a difficult issue, and medicare is even more difficult, and you have to admire people who step up with possible solutions. The problem is his solutions, like his tax proposals, tend to screw core republican constituencies but have no hope of ever being enacted. So you give the democrats a big hammer to beat you with, piss off your own supporters and get nothing in return. that's not the way trump operates.

The bottomline is the dude better win if he gets nominated. This should be a slam dunk election. If Hillary wins, keep in mind, that Trump and his supporters are the cause. This Christie ain't too hot either. Over the course of 6 months this Trump has pulled some ridiculous stunts and has managed to push his unlikeables up pretty high.

I think the dude is a bully and has surrounded himself with 'yes men' his entire life. The latest and greatest from Trump is he is quoting Mussolini. Maybe he quote Hitler next week.

I don't see anyone else who is a better shot to defeat Hillary. The base is not turning out to vote for Amnesty Boy Rubio. I like Cruz but is he really a better shot than Trump?

We lost very winnable elections with the establishment choices against Obama twice. @012 in particular should have been a layup but we got a stiff who wilted under pressure. That isn't likely to happen with Trump.

I don't buy any of it.

Trump always says he is great at making deals. What happens when he is in negotiations with the Russians and Trump shows up to find that the Russians have hired Megyn Kelly as their head negotiator? Is he going to show no backbone again and run off into the night?

. :D .

When the Mexican President he isn't paying for any effing wall

Trump's total response was that he should apologize for using a vulgar word..
