And I deal with China in one tariff code area that was for some reason removed from the list of goods to receive the tariff so someone had a good lobbyist get the Adminsitration to remove it. Just like Huawei I guess haha.

China will do something to concede to do away with the tariffs for sure but if you think they will actually do what we ask regarding opening their markets......LMAO. See Japan.

This part I totally agree with, and they basically said as much. So Trump is right that we are actually better off without a deal and hitting them with massive tariffs.

I know there is some pain in this for companies in the US that depend on Chinese imports, but theirs are not the only interests to consider nor are they necessarily the most critical.

The problem is, we let this infection of Chinese IP theft and one-way trade fester for way too long, so now treating it requires serious measures that carry some side effects. The alternative however is clearly unacceptable. Anyone criticizing Trump's approach needs to offer up a better alternative. So far, there aren't any, except allow out jobs, intellectual property and industrial base to be relentlessly stolen. That works great for connected pols like Biden and Feinstein,Wall Street and corporate CEO's, not so great for the rest of us.
 
The problem is the U.S. has been too unilateral on this. Overseas Chinese knockoffs are all over the place from Spain to Malaysia and I only see U.S. and maybe a few European firms (Coach etc.) crying about it. Unfortunately these guys have their goods made in the U.S. and the Chinese manufacturers take another production line to make knockoffs and sell them around the world. In Malaysia, Vietnam, Japan, Thalian and what I just saw in Barcelona is shitloads of Mont Blanc, Coach, Nike, Converse and Chanel knockoffs that look about 95% real.

Believe me when I tell you - and i'm not 100% convinced it has to do with tariffs alone - but China is struggling mightily....
 
The Chinese reputation is very mixed in the global business community.
From 'they make ok cheap shit' to 'I will never buy Chinese again'....

Very rarely do I hear anyone say 'the Chinese are making high quality products for a reasonable price'. It happens, but it's rare.

The people are great. But they are getting buried.

The genius about tariffs for Trump it seems is he can basically tax American consumers yet have many not realize he's doing it. Not only are some Americans willingly accepting this new tax, they are trumpeting it as some great policy that supposedly sticks it to China/Canada/etc and not them.

Could be some sectors are hit immediately who export to the U.S. but we will see. China will find a way to step in behind the scenes and make sure they do not falter due to this.
