it's more of liabilities than asset. it requires a lot of money to provide healthcare, education, jobs, food, shelter, energy, ... to 1.2 billion of people.
We could see tons of ramifications for the global manufacturing, industrial production, commodity prices and consequently, the global inflation further down the line. China is a major importer of a lot of things from a lot of countries because of the demand from its massive population and the exports it does. Well, the exports can already be decreasing severely sometime in the future because of the reverse globalization and onshoring of a lot of tech companies and all that.
But if we see that there is more to this story of population shrinkage and things get dynamic, China may stop buying a lot of commodities in huge bulks.
It can get messy for the Aussie dollar big time as well.
