China semiconductor industry decapitated

You're holding dual citizenship (native Chinese/naturalized US) and you want to work in China and escape when it's convenient? To that I say, with all due respect;

FUCK YOU, SWEETHEART.

There is the door. Use it.

eh...it's a rough one. I get the US wants to handicap China here by denying them of talent, but many naturalized are being told to choose between family or allegiance as most 1st gen's will undoubtedly have ties to the motherland. I wouldn't be happy if asked to make that choice by my adoptive country.

They can ship my ass back to Sweden. It's about IP theft/national security. Why should our tech subsidize an enemy? Are you OK with Russian nationals working in our defense industry? I suspect not.

Can't argue with idiots. This guy seems to not understand disproportionate measures. This issue has nothing whatsoever to do with domestic terrorism or treason. Hitler would be proud to witness this circus. If someone does not work at the employer a senile half-dead president mandates then that is worthy of losing one's citizenship. The founding fathers would turn in their graves if they heard that. At the same time the second most powerful person in command declares in front of the world North Korea to be America's best friend over the past several decades. You would not believe it if you had not seen and heard it with your own eyes and ears. George Carlin got it right, "garbage in, garbage out".

The country of the unfree...

Fuck you, bye. Need help scheduling a flight?

You traitor-fucks are fine with Trump as long as the relationship was transactional; steal our shit as long as it's limited to some tariffs which were porous AF.

It's all US persons right? So even that H1B visa holder or PR who graduated w/a master's and doing an internship abroad is screwed basically. While I understand how "chips" are a nat sec. issue, I would not be against a Russian national working at intel/nvda/etc...

Are we just witnessing the first steps of a Nazi-USA in the making?... :)

Sieg Eil! Schnell! Schnell! :D

NVDA is a defense contractor? Obv is only impacts dual nationals/naturalized US citizens with two Passports.

I read it as "US persons", for tax purposes at least this covers all immigrants. I'm short on the details so read this as "most semis need to pull out as semis are now a "nat sec. issue"". If we had nat. def. specific chips being worked on, I don't know what they were doing in China to begin with. That's why I threw retail semi's on there because I don't understand why you conflated defense/semis (talking pre ban).

All I'm saying is there's nerds in China and Russia who just want to work their "dream job" and going McCarthy on them and lobbing "treachery" for objecting having to uproot their lives isn't really fair. Not all of them are hackers or industrial spies. In any case, getting worked up over hypotheticals is pointless. Uncle Sam may have given them a cushy offer and they may have all been takers.

It does raise an interesting question though. Will foreign nationals be barred from working on chips that were not a nat. sec. issue until now? Not that I don't see the logic....at some point, certain projects in rockets, nuclear, bio/chem were all public domain.

Something to mull over:

I do have problem with this order. You know this only apply to "the Chinese" right? Like the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, obviously later follow by the encampment of the Japanese in WW2.

AMD and Nvidia CEOs are all Chinese-Americans. While I don't want to guess what these two's political views, I am sure they are not happy.
