It matters to the type of presidency the loser of the popular vote has.Only 1 President who lost the popular vote got a second term and most rank towards the bottom of presidential rankings list and Trump is certainly on track to be the same.
And the World Series winner isn't the team that scored the most total runs either. The game is played by rules. In the case of the Electoral College, those rules have been known by all for a very long time.
